J.PRESS York Street

The heritage of the J.Press brand reaches back over 110 years to the halls of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, where undergraduate student Jacobi Press first began dressing gentlemen up to an Ivy League standard. Since then, J.Press has earned a reputation as the tailor-of-choice for generations and continues to embody classy Ivy style.

As J.Press’ younger brother, J.Press York Street was launched in 2013 with updated iconic pieces using modern fits and materials. In a fresh reinvention of the J.Press legacy in menswear, York Street carries on the time-honored tradition of dressing the American Man.

The J.Press belief in quality above all else has not changed much over the last century. The company avoids using synthetic materials and makes an effort to keep production of its clothing in the United States, sourcing its textiles from all corners of the world. The raw materials for J.Press York Street include durable chambray from Japan, soft Italian linen, wool, and leather imported to New York City for production.

The New York-based company has a small design team, headed up by creative directors – and twin brothers – Ariel and Shimon Ovadia. The pair were named GQ’s Best New Menswear Designers in America in 2012, and continue to bring their curated taste in well-tailored Ivy League details to a daring new line. A century of classics like wool dress pants and cub ties provide the foundation for the spring collection’s “heritage group,” a new take on 21st century prep. Slimmer fit, unexpected fabrics, and perfected details all converge in pieces that transition easily from the weekend to the office.

Focusing on looks that are slimmed-down but still buttoned-up, the York Street design team has approached the revival of Ivy League style with a careful eye to appeal to a younger audience.
