Have you ever walked into place and felt like you did not want to leave? Welcome to EL NACIONAL!

To understand the atmosphere of this unique place, try and imagine a place where the ambiance of the Budapest Grand Hotel by Wes Anderson and the world of The Great Gatsby mix perfectly.

A vast complex of 8000m2 dedicated to restauration situated in one of the busiest streets in Barcelona, Passeig de Grácia. The most amazing fact about this place is that you could totally miss it! Indeed, you have to walk a few meters into a totally inconspicuous little street and then push some enormous doors to enter this world of elegance and fine dining.

Even the toilets are well worth a visit! I didn’t dare take a picture so you will have the pleasure of discovering them by yourselves!! 🙂

Built in 1870, this warehouse started out as a textile factory, then with the help of the businessman Lluis Cañadell, the interior designer Lazaro Rosa Violan and some 6 million euros, this old factory was transformed into a modern, design and magical place inspired by the 30s and 40s.

There, you will find 4 bars: a beer bar, a wine and meat bar, an oyster bar and a cocktail bar. You will also find 4 restaurants with 4 completely different styles: La Llotja which offers a menu of the day inspired by the sea, La Braseria which offers meat dishes, the super cute La Paradeta which is more like a café where you can have a quick bite and La Taperia.

Personally, when in Rome and all that, we opted for the tapas of La Taperia restaurant. What I liked: the originality of the service where the waiters shout the name of the dishes as they leave the kitchen offering them to you as soon as they are ready. Try to be tactical and only order your favourite tapas as you risk being full quickly and missing out on some little culinary gems!

In short, whether you are looking for a restaurant in Barcelona or if you are simply interested in beautiful places, do not hesitate to go there! The aroma of the dishes, the light, the decor, the music and the details will undoubtedly stimulate all your senses!
